I am part perfectionist…

… a person who refuses to accept any standard short of perfection. 'Part perfectionist' seems an oxymoron, right? It seems you either are or you aren't by definition. I guess the 'part' part is tied to knowing I'm not perfect, nor ever will be, but I do hold myself to some pretty high standards.

Excellence is one of my core values. At CDP, it's one of OUR core values. Doing more than expected, doing better than average is important to me and to us. The 'part perfectionist' comes in the form of falling short of my own expectations, i.e., not adhering to all of our outlined core values 100% of the time ---excellence included.

Our strategic framework uses the language STRIVES TO BE in referencing our core values. CDP STRIVES TO BE an organization characterized by integrity, excellence and commitment. CDP STRIVES TO BE an organization that embodies valuing people, organization, practical expertise and significant impact. CDP STRIVES TO BE an organization that champions community, entrepreneurship and development.

So today I'm reminded that it's about the strive, not 100% achievement, and my strive is intact. So here's to another day of striving to be and do and I'm okay with that.
