I love baseball.

I love the strategy of the game. I love a sport where you can strive both for personal best and collective best. I get that it's too slow-paced for many sports fans, but it's one of the things I most love about the game. It runs on its own timetable. You aren't playing against a clock; you're playing the game -- however long it takes. I draw analogies in weird places, so just go with me on this one....

Life is like a baseball game. How about these tidbits....

1. Stop living your life against the clock. Stop the "I" message of "I should have this accomplished by age 30, or age 40..." "I have to get this done today..." Each game is unique and has value in and of itself and the same is true of lives lived. Enjoy your 'game of life' and play each day as it comes.

2. Play your personal best. Always be working to develop your skills, your talents and grow your experience. Constantly be improving your 'game.'

3. Play a collective best. Baseball isn't played alone on the field and we don't play the game-of-life alone. Join a team of people working collectively to do life together and encourage your 'teammates' to do well. Everyone doing their personal best results in the collective 'team' doing well.

There are many other life lessons that could be drawn between baseball and the game of life, but three seems a good number to start. Bottom line? Play your game well -- however longs it takes
