Oh be careful little eyes…

"Oh be careful little eyes what you see...Oh be careful little ears what you hear...Oh be careful little feet where you go" 🎶

Some may remember these lyrics from Sunday school of yesteryear. It was a little song that we sang that may be more profound than we knew.

We need to be careful what we allow to touch our #senses. In the world of too many streaming channels, all the social media, ability to go anywhere at any time, and a phone attached to our hip, we need to rethink who and what gets access. Consider these thoughts as you start your week:

  1. Who am I allowing into my day that I wouldn't invite into my living room? Am I following people or pages that upset me, cause me angst or produce anxiety? Explore why you allow them in. If you can't find a reasonable, life-giving explanation, stop following, #defriend or otherwise remove them from intruding into your daily life.

  2. Seek truth. Are the things that you are reading or watching true? Are they coming from a credible source? Does the content contribute positively to your work, your family, your calling? Are you learning something? Is the content thought-provoking? Seek to absorb information that is true, helpful, and encouraging. If it doesn't add benefit, remove it.

  3. Be careful about time-wasters and energy-zappers. How important is the latest update on the drama of your high school friend's life? How does the Hollywood gossip impact you? Read and listen to articles and stories that add value, lift you up or provide you joy or laughter. Reevaluate the quality of what you let in and cut out the chaff.

As I strive to live a more disciplined life, I'm reminded that I need to be more intentional about what I let in. Here's to a new week and a fresh opportunity to spend time well.
