Rethinking Resource Development

This is insightful data. →

Nonprofits, please rethink your strategy for resource development. Here are some key points to consider:

✔️ Donors are your bread and butter. Donors are community members who see the direct value of your work and contribute to it to sustain you. Donors are partners. You + they is the we to make the mission happen. Cultivate relationships with those who can come alongside and support your work.

✔️ Consider income streams. Look at ways you can generate revenue to support your work. What are your core competencies? What do you do well that has benefit to other organizations? Find ways of adding earned revenue to your resource development strategy.

✔️ Keep it local. 90% of funding should come directly from the community you serve. Consider how your charitable contribution to the community benefits local businesses, local government or local schools. How can they come alongside you to support your efforts?

✔️ Have a strategy. No more shoot from the hip or hoping this one grant will solve your financial woes. Build a reasonable but robust strategy for pulling in the resources you need to serve and work the plan.

✔️ You can't do it alone. Develop a team for pursuing resources. It absolutely cannot fall to one person. There's strength in numbers.
