First Financial Bank
From our Banking Partner at First Financial Bank, Jamie Jordan:
Top 10 Questions to Ask a Banker
My non-profit organization needs a bank and banker that understands the life cycle of a non-profit, and how the business structure works. We don’t show profit, but we are sustainable. Where can we find a bank that wants to work with us?
I want to work with you, and I understand non-profit organizations!! I have been working with non-profits for the past 10 years, both on boards and as an advisor. I have been in the thick of operations at non-profits, and I understand the hard work that goes into each organization. I also understand the passion for each unique mission.
Does First Financial Bank sponsor non-profit organizations?
We do sponsor organizations within our footprint as we like to be woven into our communities and deeply rooted into the people of each community. We especially enjoy sponsoring clients.
Does First Financial Bank offer grants?
We do offer grants for certain programming. Please connect with me for more information.
How do I know which bank is right for me?
There are lots of things to consider when thinking of a banking partner. Access to locations, commitment to the community, products and services, client service options, and decision-making capabilities are things to think about when making a financial institution decision.
What’s the difference between the checking accounts?
Each checking account is designed for different clients in mind. Call me today and we can figure out which checking account product is right for you!
What is credit?
Credit is a number that tells a story of how well a person can make payments on time, what kind of tradelines they have had, how long those lines have been opened, and indicates how well a person will make payments in the future.
Which is better, bad credit or no credit?
No credit can be built upon, and bad credit is hard to recover. Either way, there are solutions to both, and hope should not be lost.
What if I made a mistake in my past with a bank and bounced a check, I may owe money, I’m not sure. Can you still help me?
YES! Please call, email, or text me today. I have ways to help get you back on track!
Are these check cashing places and quick loan until pay day places good to go to?
Please use caution when going to these places. There are a lot of fees involved with cashing checks at these places and getting a quick loan until pay day can cause more harm than good.
Why should people bank/work with First Financial Bank and/or Jamie (me)?
I would love for you to bank with me and bank at First! I love my company and I love what they allow me to do, which is to connect with non-profit organizations and consumer clients who want to learn more about aspects of banking. There is NEVER any pressure for any sale with me, as I am here to educate and help people on their path to success. My goal is to build a relationship with people and help them develop their own financial knowledge, if I have a product or service to help along the way that is great but that is not the intention. Knowledge first, action second.

United Heartland Insurance
John wanted to provide our CDPeople with some talking points for Nonprofits from an insurance perspective.
Directors and Officers coverage – This coverage can protect board members and officers against legal expenses if they are sued for a poor decision, such as an extravagant purchase that wasted donated funds. It also provides protection for the organization board members being sued. If you sit on a board for a non-profit organization. Do you realize without D&O insurance coverage YOU are actually exposing yourself to being sued personally? This means “John Smith” Sits on “XYZ Organization’s” Non-profit Board. John Smith has a full time job and owns a Home and 2 vehicles with his family. Without XYZ Organization carrying Directors and Officers Coverage, John Smith’s home and 2 vehicles and any other assets that John Smith has can now be exposed to judgement. This goes for any other board member, not just the Director. D&O coverage places a wall of protection between the assets of the organization and John Smith personally.
Volunteers as Insureds Endorsement – Not all insurance companies that offer Non-Profit insurance include this in their policies. If XYZ Organization is hosting a fund raising event and have volunteers working a booth or handing out flyers or simply opening a door for people and cause any bodily injury, damage, or harm to another person or organization, insurance policies can exclude “volunteers” specifically and therefore the your volunteer or helper now has to fend for themselves in court.
Professional Liability ( AKA Errors and Omissions) – If you are a Non Profit Organization that offers Counseling, Advice, Education, or provides direction to others, you may have a professional liability exposure. Professional Liability is NOT Covered by a General Liability insurance policy. It specifically excludes this. What is the difference you ask? The main difference between general liability and professional liability is in the types of risks they each cover. General liability covers physical risks, such as bodily injuries and property damage. Professional liability covers more abstract risks, such as errors and omissions in the services your business provides. Below are a few examples of these situations.
Work mistakes or oversights
Being accused of a professional mistake can be costly, especially for a small business. If your animal shelter skips a background check and an adopted pet is abused, you could face an expensive lawsuit. Professional liability insurance for nonprofit organizations can help cover attorney’s fees, court costs, and other legal expenses.
Failure to provide promised services
As a nonprofit professional, you try to offer solutions to important social problems. However, your efforts might not always go as planned. When your nonprofit is accused of not fulfilling its promises, professional liability insurance can cover the cost of a lawsuit, including a settlement or court-ordered judgment.
Allegations of negligence
Nonprofits that provide counseling or guidance can be exposed to massive liability. For example, if a staff member at your counseling center fails to recognize suicidal ideation in a teen, your organization could be accused of negligence if the teen later causes self-harm. In the event of a lawsuit, professional liability insurance can cover the expense of hiring an attorney, court costs, and settlements or judgments.
Employment Practices Liability - If a nonprofit is sued by an employee over harassment, discrimination, or another violation of employee rights. This coverage can pay for legal costs.
