You have influence.
How do you use YOUR platform? You have influence. Perhaps there aren't a million people who follow you but there are some. There are people who watch, listen and emulate you. So how do you use your platform? Consider this:
1. What you post and share on social media reflects who you are, what you stand for and what you believe. How would those who follow you describe you? Do you like that reflection? Is it accurate?
2. Are you careful and intentional with your words or do you use more words than necessary? Words are powerful and long-lasting. Whether you are in front of the microphone, in the board room, lunch room or around the dining room table, words matter. They build up and they tear down and they are recorded in our memory banks. Do you choose your words carefully? How would those who are listening describe what they've heard? Do you like that recording?
3. What you do shows your passion, your commitment and what you truly care about. Actions speak louder than words, no? Inventory your time and where you put your energy. Do people see with accuracy those things that you are passionate about? The things that matter? Do your actions match the version of you you want to portray and who you see yourself to be?
So many people strive for more friends, more followers, and more people watching and listening. Many people are scrambling for the spotlight, the place at the table or the headline. But perhaps it would do us all good to recognize we already have influence and we should use that influence wisely. There are others already watching, recording and taking note. Let's spend our energy ensuring that our reflection, the recordings of our lives, and the activities where we spend our time reflect the quality of person we hope to be. Cheers to quality influencing.
