Feeling overworked, exhausted and spent?

How do you move past the feeling of being overwhelmed and burned out? Consider this:

  1. Mandates, priorities and preferences. Make a list of what HAS to be done and when (mandates). Make a list of things that are important but aren't have-to's and when they need to be done (priorities). Make a list of all the rest of what you want to do and what others want you to do (preferences). Get clear on what HAS to be done and when.

  2. For all things you've identified, think about the amount of bandwidth required for each task. Bandwidth = energy and brain power. If you are feeling burned out, you are allowed only 1 -2 tasks per day that require significant bandwidth (you may add more as your energy allows).

  3. Create a to-do calendar that includes time allocated for each mandate/priority AND considers the amount of bandwidth each requires. Map out your time. Fill it first with mandates and then fill in the balance with things that are priorities. Remember initially only schedule 1 -2 tasks each day that require significant bandwidth.

Rest and rejuvenation activities need to be included each day. Family obligations and relationships need to be included each day. Stay balanced friends and be intentional about how to reach that balance by mapping out your activities well.
