Give a nod…

Whose posts or opinion blogs are you applauding in silence, behind the scenes? It is easy to like, share and publicly support some posts...the promotion, the new job, the educational achievement. These types of posts are noncontroversial, noncommittal and easy to give a nod to. And we should like, applaud and offer our congratulations. But there are some contributors, authors and posters that get it right. They pour out their hearts, share their wisdom and their insights, and too often we quietly hide in the shadows, reading their words, nodding our heads and whispering "amen" while staying silent and scrolling on without an acknowledgement. Why do we do that? Are we afraid our true opinion or position on an issue will be discovered? Are we too afraid to align ourselves with the author or their perspective? In a social media world where we can be unbelievably bold on some issues, why are we so quiet on others? Do we monitor and filter our likes out of fear or do we just want to keep some measure of privacy?

For those of us who keep scrolling after we've read a poignant post, I challenge us to consider giving a nod via a "like" or perhaps a comment. Let's show our support, our acceptance and applaud the written word that caused us to think or see a different perspective or perhaps even be validated. Keep applauding the achievements and good news, but let's give equal nod to the quality content providers among us.
