How’s your juggling?

How do you juggle all the balls you have in the air? How do you decide how many is reasonable to juggle at once? When do you know you've added one too many....when they start falling? These are difficult questions for those who look to pack the most into their day, this season or this chapter of life.

I dropped one today. Ouch. It's painful. Nope, I'm not invincible, superwoman or infallible. I know this but these moments of dropping the ball keep it real and the humility fresh. So what now?

1. Admit fault. Mea culpa. I dropped the ball. I missed this one. This one is on me. Who did I let down or harm? Owning up to the error with them is important.
2. Don't overreact. It's a mistake and one that needs to be corrected. It's a wrong that needs to be made right. This isn't a new label to slap on myself. I don't beat myself up over it. I avoid self-talk that includes words like always or never.
3. Rethink the plan. What COULD have been done differently, if anything. Why did this mistake happen? Could this error have been prevented? This is less about THIS instance and more about moving forward better. I give myself time to evaluate and prepare for doing better in the future. Perhaps I need to change protocol, add a step or revisit process. Taking time to rethink the plan is worth the effort.

We all drop balls now and then but these moments give us an opportunity to pause, regroup and improve. Here's to a fresh start today and effective juggling moving forward.
