Jack be nimble, Jack be quick...

...you remember the nursery rhyme, right? Jack is nimble; he is agile. He is flexible and willing to shift gears at a moment's notice. Sound like something needed in community work? You bet.

I have had two meaningful conversations this week with social entrepreneurs. Social entrepreneurs are my people. They envision what could be, what SHOULD be and are willing to put in the energy, talent and time to make it happen. While many attributes are needed to bring an idea to fruition, staying nimble is a key element. The best laid plans will change. Do we still make plans? Of course! But there are so many factors outside our control that staying flexible, agile, NIMBLE is key.

So, social entrepreneurs, lay out the vision, mission. core values and what the next stretch of road looks like. Proceed forward in accordance with your plan, but know that there will be unanticipated hurdles, challenges and opportunities that will require a refocus and resetting of the path. Stay nimble. Be like Jack.
