Resources don't fall from the sky.

Yes, you can be doing the right thing for the right reason. Yes, you may be called to do the mission-driven work. Yes, you may have a divine appointment to accomplish good BUT resources require you to do your part. If it's not in writing it doesn't exist; if it IS in writing we have to do it. So...

1. Make a plan. Identify what resources you need to do your work and make a plan for getting them. Donors, business support, volunteers, in-kind donations, social enterprise, grants -- they can all be part of the plan but they require you to plan for them.

2. Commit to implement the plan. Great things on paper are great things on paper. They do not accomplish themselves. If it's in a plan we do it. Period. If the plan needs to change, we revise it. If it's in the plan we do it.

3. Need help? Get it. Seek out peers a step ahead of you that can impart wisdom to you on this journey. Join a network of professionals to learn from others. Get training and learn how to plan and implement (like us, CDP:) Click here to visit our training site.). Arm yourself with tools you need to be successful (like GrantStation.com).

There are also plenty of professionals in the field ready to help with planning and/or implementing. A few connections: Gregory Nielsen LLC, Allison Boyd GPC, Jule' Colvin, Tomika Hedrington, April Hamlin.

Make the plan. Implement it. Get the help you need.
