Workplace bullies.

They aren't really that much different than school yard bullies -- they've just grown up a bit. Here's how to spot one:

(1) Everyone is afraid to tell them no.
(2) They don't take no for an answer.
(3) You get a sick feeling in the pit of your stomach if they are in a meeting with you or occupy the same space.
(4) They are verbally aggressive with body language to match.

Difficult personalities, are well, difficult. Here are four tips to help:

1. Focus on behavior, not person. As deplorable a human as they may be, you can't correct their character so keep the focus on the behavior.
2. Keep it work-focused. How does their behavior impact the work? Be specific and clear when addressing the behavior.
3. Identify boundaries. Identify the rules of conduct and expectations for your group, work culture or team and consider how this person violated those boundaries.
4. Remember the goal -- the goal is a healthy, productive work environment. You can't ignore workplace bullying and have a productive environment. You have to confront bad behavior if you expect it to not overtake the work environment.

If you struggle with this, we can help.
