I Made It.

Raise your hands if you've 'made it?" Anyone? What is the sign that you've 'made it?' How would you know? Is a sign that you made it when you're sought out as a guest speaker or the expert quoted in the newspaper? Have you made it when your bank account is healthy or when you've reached a certain social status, invited to the 'right parties' or have the 'right friends'? Have you made it when you've reached your goals? Attained a certain educational stature? Reached the top of the organizational pyramid? Written X number of books? Have X number of clients? Retired?

Perhaps we can agree that celebrities seem to have made it. Elected officials 'make it' into office. Our picture-perfect family on social media shows we've made it.....right?

My younger self would look at my middle-aged self and perhaps conclude I've made it. I'm married, have the kids and the house, and own the business. But I would never look at my life today and think to myself that I've made it. My everyday walk is a journey. I have more to do, more to see, and more to learn. There's always a next project, a next season and the excitement of what's to come. I'm a work in progress and I move forward and take those steps on the path of life one day at a time. I suspect I'll never feel like I've made it or I'm done and now I can coast. Life is a journey and as long as I'm here there's more journeying to do.
