You should never be just a number…
…not at DMV/BMV, not at the doctor's office, and certainly not at your place of employment. You are valuable. You deserve to be seen for the person of value you are. Period. No exceptions.
Shifting sand…
Working in the field of community development is challenging. Most days I take that challenge on and enjoy it. Today I'm overwhelmed with stories of turmoil both domestically and abroad.

Change fatigue is real.
Change fatigue isn't limited to the personal or work environment, I see it evident in the way society and culture are changing so rapidly.
I love baseball.
I love the strategy of the game. I love a sport where you can strive both for personal best and collective best.

I think the 'debrief' is a really great tool that is often underutilized. What is debriefing?

…you remember the nursery rhyme, right? Jack is nimble; he is agile. He is flexible and willing to shift gears at a moment's notice. Sound like something needed in community work? You bet.
I’m An Early Riser.
I'm an early riser. I don't necessarily want to be, but it's my natural inclination. Part of my processing about social events and gatherings has to consider the level of energy I'm likely to have after 9pm.
Hold them accountable.
Some nonprofits are incredibly impactful, unsung heroes. Some perform their calling and deliver their mission in extraordinary ways. Nonprofits are on the battle lines, feeding people, clothing them and sheltering them.
Truth can be hard to see.
Untruths, deceptions, and lies are tricky. Sometimes they masquerade as half-truths or partial truths. I don't know many people who would label themselves as liars but …
Change is hard.
It is hard to leave jobs, committees, churches, social clubs, or boards and move on to your next. Equal to the excitement of the 'new' can be a sense of loss and sadness.
What gets your leftovers?
Most of us juggle many different hats -- some are personal roles we have like mom, dad, grandparent, daughter, son. Other hats are our commitments at work, church, civic club, sports team, and the like.
