6 Components: Image Management

There are six components that make up a nonprofit. The component of Image Management is critical in the quest to develop a healthy and sustainable nonprofit. Image Management is defined as 'controlling how others view you.' It includes public relations and marketing and starts with a plan. Consider these questions:

  • What is the message you want to share? Define who you are and what you want others to think when they think of you.

  • How are you going to share it? Social media, newspapers, annual reports, newsletters...

  • Is there consistency of message across platforms? Think carefully about who is developing the content on social media, newsletters and all other communications and make sure there are checks and balances with how the content is developed and disseminated.

You have a tremendous amount of control when it comes to how others consider your nonprofit. Use this influence and control well. Be intentional about developing the message and content and sharing it in ways that help others think highly of you.
