Keep pushing.

2020 has tested us in ways few other years have. The demands on nonprofits have escalated. The resources have diminished. Nonprofits are often asked to do more with less, but our ability to stretch a dollar and our tenacity to push forward have been stretched in ways that have caused even the most seasoned practitioners to stumble.

It may sound cliche, but you can do this. You will get through this. WE will get through this. Keep pushing.

If you've been around CDP very long at all you know our tagline for nonprofits is get organized and get funded. I have never believed in that concept as much as I do in this season. Some nonprofits ARE organized. They have prepared for difficult seasons. But so many others are struggling to just keep their head above water. If that's you, do not despair. It's not too late to pivot and change the course to survive this season and set your footing for the season to come. As you continue to navigate these difficult waters here are three things to keep in mind as you push forward

1. Lean in. Gather the team together and move forward, unified. This is the time for leaders to lead. This is the time to engage your board, your executive staff, your volunteers and your beneficiaries. Identify what needs to be done and make plans to move forward together. This is not the time to fly solo. You are not in this alone. This is the time to engage your team to work collectively to survive this season.

2. Ask for help. So many people are looking for ways to help. Don't be afraid to go deeper with your donors, your volunteers, and your funders. Let them know how this season has impacted your work and give them an opportunity to help. Pick up the phone, reach out on social media, write letters to your supporters. Contact those who believe in the mission of your work and let them help you in tangible ways.

3. Don't give up. You were made for such a time as this. No other season in recent history has demonstrated the need for the helpers among us. If you are in a nonprofit, that is you. Whether you are providing basic needs of food clothing and shelter or you are contributing to the quality of life in our neighborhoods and cities, our communities need you now more than ever. Do not give up. Keep pushing on. This season will end, but until it does, keep pushing.

One of my favorite Christian authors is Max Lucado and he wrote a book with a great quote: "You'll get through this. It won't be painless. It won't be quick. But God will use this mess for good. Don't be foolish or naive. But don't despair either. With God's help, you'll get through this."

CDP stands with you. We are here to support you in any way we can. Let us know how we can encourage you and help you through this season. Thank you for all you do and for your willingness to serve. Continue to push and, together, let's finish 2020 strong.
