Organization Evaluation

Set the standard. Meet the standard. CDP has been helping nonprofits get organized and get funded for over 20 years. We come alongside nonprofits to help them build strong foundations that lead to long-term sustainability. Sustainable nonprofits serve communities through mission-driven work that contributes to communities where everyone can thrive.

But what is a healthy nonprofit? Who defines it? What does it mean and how do we move toward it? Healthy nonprofits are not simply defined by their mission and the work they do in communities. Healthy nonprofits have a strong foundation and are positioned to continue to serve into the future. So are you healthy?

Significant effort has been made to establish uniform standards of health and sustainability for nonprofits. Standards consider financial well-being, governance, internal controls and practice. As you assess the health of your nonprofit, take a look at the standards defined by these two thought-leaders and see how you measure up:

Standards for Excellence Institute® evaluates organizations in 27 topics across six areas that include:

- Mission, Strategy, and Evaluation
- Leadership: Board, Staff, and Volunteers
- Legal Compliance and Ethics
- Finance and Operations
- Resource Development
- Public Awareness, Engagement, and Advocacy

Details available at standardsforexcellence.org.

BBB Wise Giving Alliance evaluates the extent that nonprofits meet 20 performance benchmarks in four areas: (1) governance and oversight; (2) measuring effectiveness; (3) finances; and, (4) solicitations and informational materials. More information is available at give.org.
