Prayer works.
Prayer works. That's a cliché to many people and others will eyeroll or brush it aside but I know it works.
In mid-July we drove to Milwaukee on our quest to visit baseball stadiums across the country. We were excited to see the Brewers on their home turf. It was also close to our anniversary so I opted to make reservations at a bit higher end hotel than we would normally choose. I mean, they had paid parking and security guards posted outside. Swanky.
We uber-ed to the stadium and loved every minute of the experience. We watched some great ball and ate greasy ballpark food. We were livin' the life. We made our way back to the hotel and settled in for the night. Then the call came just after midnight. The window of our car had been smashed in along with half a dozen other vehicles. We don't leave valuables in the car so what could they have possibly taken? Then the panic. Where was my computer.
As an entrepreneur my computer is another appendage. It captures my thoughts, my creative business ideas, my work files, client information and years of history of it all. A hurried arrival had left the computer in the back seat. I cried. I don't cry much but this was a moment of sheer panic. I cried then I prayed.
The next morning a man walks in with my computer -- a computer he found in an alley near the hotel. Wow. A rush of glee, gratefulness and astonishment. But alas, no hard drive.
I refocused, shamed myself for failure to back up files and made a path forward. Prayers for a miracle continued if there was any possible way that my hard drive could make it back to me....I muttered to the Almighty.
Two weeks ago. I received a strange call at the office. A man, a tech guy from a Wisconsin credit union found a random hard drive in a parking lot. He opened it, went to our website and called. Speechless. Thankful. Amazed.
I am very grateful for this answered prayer and the happy ending. It is a blessing for so many reasons. Coincidence you say? Nah. Chances of this happening? One in a million. I still have many other prayers in process, prayers without the neat and tidy ending. But this wasn't one of them and that encourages my soul. It is a reminder that He is still listening and He is still working. So, dear friends, keep praying and take heart that He is still a God of miracles.
