Time.

Time is our most precious commodity. Can I get an 'Amen?' Valuing time is a point of emphasis in our volunteer management training and it's a critical point for all of us to remember.

There are 27,380 days in a 75-year lifetime. That equates to 657,120 hours. 157,680 of those hours are spent on childhood. Roughly 145,635 of our adult life is spent sleeping (yes, go ahead and buy yourself that solid mattress). If we subtract out sleeping and childhood we have 353,805 hours remaining to live life. What are you doing with those hours? I challenge you with these two tasks:

  1. Take an inventory of your time over a two-week period. Classify time spent on chores, work, fun/leisure, volunteering, relationship-building, self-care, spiritual growth, physical exercise, learning, and time-wasters. Consider the results from your inventory. What surprises you? If you are like many of us, what we value isn't reflected in where we spend our time.

  2. Map out a plan for your time over the next two weeks based on your priorities and what you value. What got left out? What changed in your schedule?

Time is precious. Let's better value our time and value the time others give us. Now go have an impactful day.
