Who do you need on your team?
Often we think organization is the antithesis of creativity when in fact entrepreneurship requires both. These two attributes are necessary and complementary and are arguably best applied in tension with one another.
Creativity involves possibilities of what could be. It imagines, dares to dream, and considers what could be. Creative thinking isn't limited by the shall nots or we-have-never-done-it-that-way-befores. Creativity is imagining a new way, an unforged path. Visionaries are creatives who are problem solvers. They reimagine new and innovative ways to solve complex problems sometimes leading them to start new nonprofits or small businesses.
Organization is putting parts into order to enable execution. It is forging a path that is clear, defined and ordered. It is bringing the creative into alignment with the here and now. It is taking the what-could-bes and bringing them into the realm of the possible. Organization brings ideas to life. It integrates the new with the existing.
Entrepreneurship needs creativity and organization. It's not one or the other, it's both. If you are a creative, find your organizer. They will keep you moving forward to bring your creation to fruition. If you are an organizer, find your creative. Creatives will bring fresh perspective and ideas and infuse new energies into your work.
Entrepreneurship takes a team and sometimes a village to make it all come together. Who do you need on your team?
